Dohtonbori Australia – Fun Japanese Okonomiyaki Restaurant in Melbourne & Sydney
Dohtonbori is Japan food place where you cook food by yourself on hot table. Like, there’s a metal circle thing and it go sizzle sizzle and you just throw stuff on it and hope it don’t burn. They make pancake but not sweet pancake, it’s like cabbage and meat and egg all mixed up like food soup but flat. They call it okonomiyaki but I can’t say that right so I just say Japanese pancake.
It smell very strong but good strong, like sauce and smoke. People in the place shout something when you walk in, like “Irash… something!” and it make you feel like you in Japan anime or something. The workers are nice, they smile and bring plates but you still gotta cook it yourself so kinda like half service. The sauce is brown and sticky and make everything taste fancy.
There’s also noodles that slide everywhere and rice and meat and fish and so many things that I can’t pick. Sometimes it too hot and I sweat but still eat because it yummy. You can eat with your friends or your cousin or that one person from work who likes food pictures. Everyone laugh when pancake break but it’s okay ‘cause it still taste same. The place got wood walls and lights that make it feel cozy but also smoky, like BBQ and Japan had a baby.
Drinks come in tall cups and make bubbles. You might spill something but that’s fine. Dohtonbori not fancy, not quiet, but super fun and tasty. You flip, you burn, you eat. That’s how it works.
